"IPSL holds cultural sensitivity as a central and essential element to the service-learning programs. I liked the fact that everyone must complete the academic portion of the program, which provides a framework for learning about the daily course of activities. What the majority of the visitors lack when they tour a country is knowledge of the national culture, history and language. IPSL upheld these three elements as crucial building blocks of the programs."

Most IPSL programs are offered through an in-country college or university—each four-year, degree-granting, and accredited. A few programs are offered through language institutes. Students are taught by the faculty of the affiliated institution, which issues an official transcript for the student’s academic record.
