We Have Winners!

IPSL is proud to announce the WINNERS of our 4th annual STUDENT PHOTO CONTEST!
Students submitted images in five categories:
• Service Placements
• Home stays and Campus Life
• Community Experience
• Landscapes and the Environment
• Travel and Excursions
and the judging team selected one Grand prize and one honorable mention in each category. This year's judges were: Emma Newton, an IPSL Cusco alum, Lenny Gotter of StudioNinetyEight (a professional Photographer) and Erin Barnhart, the IPSL Graduate Program Director. We had many lovely submissions that we will be proud to use for our promotional materials. Thank you all and current students please submit for next year's competition - you could be a winner and win up to $500 cash!
SERVICE PLACEMENT CATEGORY
Grand Prize – Andrew Froelich - "A Smile"- Cusco, Peru. Caption: “In my time at Clinica San Juan de Dios, I did not change the world. However, the smile of these kids would melt the coldest of hearts and I hope I helped bring about a few of these smiles.”

Honorable Mention – Christina Mandal - "Learning Should be Fun!" – Chiang Mai, Thailand. Caption: “During English class, Chai seemed bashful when he first read in front of the class, however, after 4 months of reading, speaking and interacting in English, he was much more comfortable expressing himself in another language!”

HOMESTAYS AND CAMPUS LIFE CATEGORY
Grand Prize – Lauren Bruce - "My Essentials" – Montpellier, France. Caption: “My best friends adoring each other. I couldn’t ask for better companions. They lightened my dark days and further brightened my bright days. I will love you tow forever.”

Honorable Mention – Andrew Froelich - "Another Loving Family" - Cusco, Peru. Caption: “A Saturday afternoon family trip to the ruins of Moray near Cusco. As we descended the terraces, my two host brothers (Diego and Fabri) gave their mother) my host mother, Pati) a helping hand. The deep care in this family helped me feel at home away from home.”

COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE CATEGORY
Grand Prize – Angela Peterson- "Take me Away" – Siena, Italy. Caption: “This is my absolute favorite picture from my time abroad. It was a lazy Sunday of wandering around the city and I was searching for something new and exciting. I soon just let me body do the walking for me and after twists and turns I wandered onto this scene – a ledge that overlooked the entire city. This picture represents my time aboard as I let Italy and the city “take me away”. I found myself there, I found a passion for life and I fell completely and entirely in love with it.”

Honorable Mention – Siri Johnson - " Coffee" – Quito/Galapagos, Ecuador. Caption: “This is one of the “community” dogs we were familiar with at the coffee plantation where he is from.”

LANDSCAPES AND THE ENVIRONMENT CATEGORY
Grand Prize- Siri Johnson - "Cotopaxi Sunrise" – Quito/Galapagos, Ecuador. Caption: Sunrise on the cold slopes of Cotopaxi in Ecuador.

Honorable Mention – Christina Mandal - "Elephantine Entertainment – Chiang Mai, Thailand. Caption: “The elephants lined up to bathe themselves and perform a show for us at the Ping River. They were so playful: some sprayed water out of their trunks and others splashed and rolled!”

TRAVEL AND EXCURSIONS CATEGORY
Grand Prize – Lauren Bruce- "The Simple Pleasures in Life" – Avignon, France. Caption: “On an excursion to Avignon, I was able capture a perfect moment between and elder lady and her flock of pigeons. Too many people in this world move at a fast pace, she reminded me to slow down and enjoy every moment.”

Honorable Mention – Andrew Froelich - "An Easily Wonderful Wonder" – Machu Picchu, Peru Caption: “A thumbnail of Machu Picchu from atop Huayna Picchu, over 100 feet higher than Machu Picchu. Looking down onto this Wonder of the World puts everything in perspective and did not cease to give me goosebumps.”
