Program Design
Each IPSL program is a little different, and we encourage you to explore the pages specific to each program by visiting our Program Pages. There you will find details on academic studies, service placements, living arrangements, excursions, dates, fees, and deadlines. You can also search for programs using criteria such as fields of study, area of service, and language of instruction.
Despite variations, all IPSL programs share some common features:
- academic studies at a local university or institution for a full semester, summer, or year’s credit, some of which is directly linked to the service experience
- 10-20 hours a week of substantive volunteer service in a local school, healthcare agency, community development project, or other agency addressing human needs or social issues
- homestay with a local host family (or in some instances, in university housing)
- in-country orientation addressing important cultural, logistical, and safety issues
- guided field trips
- reflection
- support services
