"As a result of my experience in Prague, I have added human services on to my academic program as a double major along with psychology because I could see the great need for people in this field of work— and I got such a good, satisfying feeling from serving people and making a difference in their lives."
- Amy, Curry College
Capital of the Czech Republic, Prague is one of Europe's most beautiful cities. Located in the heart of Bohemia on the River Vltava, it has been a center of trade, culture, political life, religion, and learning for over a thousand years. In the medieval and Renaissance periods, it Prague played a major role as the central city in historic Bohemia and as the capital for a time of the Holy Roman Empire. In the 20th century, it was a focus of resistance to Soviet domination of Central Europe. Today, it is a lively cultural center with dozens of daily concerts, excellent museums, historic sites, opera, theater, bookstores, and bustling cafes and restaurants. Called the "city of a hundred golden towers," Prague is a living museum of European architecture, including Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and Art Nouveau. It continues to be a source of inspiration to writers, poets, musicians, painters, photographers, travelers, and international students.
