Following are examples of agencies where IPSL students have served in the past or may be able to serve. Other service placements may be available. Your placement will be determined by community and agency needs, as well as your interests, goals, and skills.


After-school recreational club for underprivileged children

This after-school club's mission is to promote safe play and recreational activities for children; to promote tolerance and respect for the general benefit to individuals and the community. Acceptance of diversity, equality and equal opportunities are key factors promoted in the agency. The two main facilities are the Nursery, for children aged up to 5 years, and the Playzone, for children aged between 5 and 12 years. IPSL students engage in recreational activities with children and young people; encourage children to bond with each other; help them to develop social skills, learn and have fun.

Day care center for the elderly

This is a community-based day care centre for frail elderly people, some of whom may have a disability or be in an early stage of dementia. Its mission is to provide a therapeutic programme that aims to maintain an optimum level of physical and mental health of the agency users. IPSL students engage socially with the elderly people and offer help where needed in recreational activities.

Organization that provides services to help the unemployed begin or return to work

This is a for-profit organization that provides courses to the unemployed, giving them the opportunity to gain the skills required to achieve, sustain and progress in employment.IPSL students might asssist tutors in training schemes for the unemployed or provide support to and mentor young people.

Scottish housing agency for ethnic minorities

This agency helps members of minority ethnic and refugee communities cope with issues of homelessness, inadequate housing and racism; promotes anti-discriminatory practice; and offers training and consultancy on issues relating to ethnic minority groups. IPSL students are involved in casework service to minority ethnic people and refugees who are homeless; facing homelessness; living in unsatisfactory housing conditions; and/or experiencing racial harassment.

Special educational needs primary school

This non-denominational State primary school caters for the needs of children with moderate learning difficulties. There is also a unit for children with autism and other communication disorders. With the guidance of a classroom teacher, IPSL students give learning and social support to children where needed and assist teacher in general classroom duties.
