The program is based at the historic Univerzita Karlova v Praze (Charles University in Prague), founded in 1348 and the oldest institution of higher education in Central Europe. The University Faculties (departments/colleges) are housed throughout the medieval part of Prague in the city’s center. All courses are taught in English. You take three required courses and an elective for 12–15 credits per semester. A transcript from Charles University is issued upon successful completion of the program.
Drawing heavily on your service experience, this course examines the way social institutions relate to and reflect the issues of the larger society, drawing upon the disciplines and fields of sociology, psychology, special education, human services, organization development, and administration.

Topics include: history; the political situation in the Czech Republic; social policy and legislation; educational policy and practice; Czech spiritual tradition; modern Czech literature; art and music; Jewish Tradition; economics; and ecological issues. Introduction to Czech language is part of this course.

Availability of courses varies by semester, but examples of courses recently taken by IPSL students include English Literature, American Literature, Gender Issues in Contemporary Literature, British Studies, American Studies, Critical Thinking and Writing, Architecture; Cross-Cultural Workshop; Inclusion Issues; and Autism.
